Platelets are tiny cell fragments that are formed from budding off of very large cells in the bone marrow called megakaryocytes [ 1 ]. An MPV test is often included as part of a complete blood count CBC test , which assesses the overall composition of the blood and its individual components, including red blood cells , white blood cells , and platelets [ 10 ].
